Candidates
Sameer Zuberi (Liberal) — A Montreal-born human rights advocate and lawyer, Zuberi earned a BA in mathematics from Concordia University and a law degree from UQAM, where he received the inaugural Juanita Westmoreland-Traore scholarship for his contribution to human rights and social justice. He had worked as human rights coordinator at the National Council of Canadian Muslims and later served as diversity and engagement officer at McGill University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Mariam Ishak (Conservative) — Originally from Egypt and a Canadian resident since 1998, Ishak had worked at CIBC and served as a board member of the West Island Women's Shelter. Her campaign received support from Senator Leo Housakos and former Cabinet minister Gerry Weiner.
Bruno Ibrahim El-Khoury (NDP) — Born in Lebanon, El-Khoury had worked as an entrepreneur and leadership coach before seeking office under the NDP banner in this West Island riding.
Edline Henri (Bloc Quebecois) — Henri, who had been active as a board member at College de Maisonneuve, ran as the Bloc Quebecois candidate in a riding where the sovereignty movement has limited reach given the West Island's multilingual demographics.
Lisa Mintz (Green Party) — Mintz carried the Green Party banner. Lee Weishar (People's Party), Martin Plante (Independent), and Shahid Khan (Independent) also stood as candidates.
About the Riding
Pierrefonds—Dollard is one of the West Island's most linguistically diverse ridings, with roughly thirty-seven percent of residents listing English as their mother tongue and thirty-two percent listing French, alongside significant communities speaking Arabic, Greek, and Italian. Dollard-des-Ormeaux, a largely residential city of about 50,000, has a substantial immigrant population. Pierrefonds-Roxboro combines established residential areas with newer developments, while L'Ile-Bizard—Sainte-Genevieve retains a more semi-rural character with green spaces and waterfront properties. Commuter transit to downtown Montreal, flood management along the Riviere des Prairies—an issue that gained urgency after the severe spring floods of 2017 and 2019—and the preservation of remaining green spaces on the island's western edge were key local concerns. With incumbent Frank Baylis stepping aside, the riding's Liberal nomination became one of the most competitive in Montreal.
