Canadian celebrities for Mitt Romney

Bobby Orr: He’s one of the greatest hockey players of all time, who played for the greatest team of all time, and scored the greatest Stanley Cup goal of all time. Yes, Bobby Orr has endorsed Mitt Romney for President of the United States, contributing $5000 to his campaign. Not one to shy away from Canadian Conservative politics as well, Orr has attended numerous events and photo-ops with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

David Foster: This British Columbian discovered one of Quebec’s greatest talents: Celine Dion. Among his other crimes to Canadian hipsters: he has endorsed Mitt Romney for President. Foster attended a California fundraiser on September 17th for the former Massachusetts governor.

Yes, that’s two. You’ll note that “celebrities” is plural. Do you know any others?

Good news for Ted Opitz. Supreme Court of Canada overturns lower court.

Split decision by the Supreme Court of Canada 4-3. The lower court decision has been overturned and there will be no by-election in Etobicoke Centre. Ted Opitz remains MP. Former Liberal challenger Borys Wrzesnewskyj loses his case.

From the decision:

“we reject the candidate’s [Borys Wrzesnewskyj’s] attempt to disenfranchise entitled voters and so undermine public confidence in the electoral process.”

“There is no allegation of any fraud, corruption or illegal practices. Nor is there any suggestion of wrongdoing by any candidate or political party.”

“[Borys Wrzesnewskyj] asks this Court to disqualify the votes of several Canadian citizens”
